Attic Labs claims the software powering their database will remain open source; however, the company told developers in a that it has “no immediate plans for additional work.” Instead, the technology will be used as a part of Quip’s collaboration platform to improve its “ability to connect live data sources, making it easier for people to collaborate faster and more effectively.”

Salesforce has a history of acquiring open source companies. According to ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ, the world’s largest CRM software company has acquired PredictionIO, GoInstant, and Dimdim in the category. An acquisition price was not disclosed in those deals.
